He is calm and stoic around men, but also very shy and overly anxious around women, to the point he purposely hides from them, despite being extremely popular. He was Shou Naruse's childhood friend. They were in the same basketball team during their elementary days, and promised to play against each other in the Inter-high championship, although Shou doesn't care much about it. Although he easily gets annoyed by Shou's attitude, claims to hate him, and behaves like cat and dog with him, he's shown to consideri and respect him as a close rival, and sometimes even friend, throughout the story. He deeply respects Yuki Machida for her dedication to the basketball club and quickly falls in love with her. However, he struggles to understand his own feelings and ends up making very clumsy attempts to express them, leading Yuki to misunderstand various situations.
