📜 About Simon
Age: 14; Height: 156 cm (5'1"); Weight: 40 kg; Simon is the protagonist of the story, a short and un-intimidating fourteen year old boy at the beginning of this tale. He was born in Jiiha Village and was raised by his parents until the age of seven, when his parents were killed in an underground avalanche caused by an earthquake. Their deaths traumatized Simon to the point of both hating and fearing life underground, and likely played a role in developing his relationship with Kamina. Ironically, Simon's role in his community was to dig more tunnels and caverns to expand Jiiha Village deeper underground. Though valued as a skilled digger, Simon was ignored by the adults of his village and snubbed by the girls, who considered him disgusting. Along with his fear of earthquakes, Simon developed low self-esteem and had many cowardly tendencies. His only friend and role model growing up was Kamina, a brash and eccentric older boy who had an obsession with escaping the underground world for the surface, which he visited as a child with his father. Simon was slowly "recruited" into Team Gurren along with several other boys, and lead by Kamina made several attempts to reach the surface over several years. During one attempt, a sudden earthquake trapped Team Gurren within a chamber and cut off the supply of oxygen. Simon began to panic, but after inspiration from Kamina he managed to dig all of the Team Gurren members out of danger. Yoko would later recall that Kamina himself was terrified during this incident, but he hid his fear from Simon knowing Simon was the only one capable of rescuing his gang. One day during the digging of a new tunnel, Simon discovers a small drill-shaped object that periodically glows. Later that day, he unearths a large "face" in the ground, which he shows to Yoko and Kamina after Jiiha Village is attacked by a large Gunmen. The face is revealed to be a miniature Gunmen, and the object Simon dug up the key to starting it up. With the aid of this mech, which Kamina names "Lagann." Simon destroys the large Gunmen attacking Jiiha and rises to the surface world. (Source: Wikipedia)

🧠 Personality
left|thumb Simon is polite, humble, compassionate and brave. At the start of the series, he was a shy, extremely withdrawn boy, finding solace only whilst digging tunnels for the expansion of Jiha village. He also had a huge fear of earthquakes after losing his parents in one, though this changed when he discovered that the Gunmen were responsible for those earthquakes. After finding Lagann and fighting a Beastman for the first time, he began to come out of his shell but continued to fear the pressure to be brave and fight for the rest of the team. Initially, Simon relied heavily on those around him to inspire him to fight bravely, especially Kamina, who often had to convince Simon to pluck up the courage needed in battle. However, Simon displayed an uncanny aptitude for combat despite his timidness, and has even enjoyed himself on the battlefield, as seen during the first battle against Thymilph. He is also more than capable of being brave, and refused to just stand around while Kamina got himself killed. Simon is also very level-headed, and often kept the rash and reckless Kamina from making poor decisions; Kamina even remarked at one point that his level head is the only thing that kept him alive. As a teenager among like-aged women, Simon was prone to jealousy and heartbreak. This was demonstrated when he witnessed Yoko, then the object of his affections, kiss Kamina. The image was burned into his mind during the pivotal battle against Thymilph, and Simon was unable to fight properly until he was, inspired to fight by Kamina, who ended up dying in the battle. The latter's death changed Simon profoundly, and Simon fell into a state of heavy depression. Initially, he disconnected himself from the rest of the crew and even once lashed out at Rossiu, mocking him for having once believed in a false religion. These same feelings forbade him from operating Lagann correctly. These frustrations greatly interfered with his fighting as well. Simon resolved to try emulating Kamina, but the Spiral rejected it, forcing him into a fit of nausea and discharging raw Spiral Power out of Lagann's cockpit. After meeting Nia, he temporarily forgot about his emotions in utter awe of her, though he sank once again into his depression after both he and Nia were safely aboard the Dai-Gurren. With nearly everyone having "abandoned" him (at Yoko's urging, as she believed nobody could help Simon overcome Kamina's death but himself), he is at his lowest. Simon is eventually able to snap massively out of his delirium through a combination of his want to change Nia's desperate situation and his own resolve to rescue his crew. Behind him, the Dai-Gurren crew watch as Simon uses his core drill to diligently break through to freedom. It is in that moment that they were witnessing what Kamina saw all along; an unbreaking back that was in silence paving the way to their freedom. Not only were they seeing a man chip away at bedrock, but they were witnessing him chip away at himself and their leader slowly being broken out in front of their eyes. Shortly thereafter, Simon awakens and lays waste to the Beastman opposition. Performing the first solo Giga Drill Breaker shown in the series. From that point forward, the true Simon had awakened and the old Simon was gone. He also accepted that he could never be like Kamina, but that doesn't matter as he can still be his own person. Even after mastering his immense Spiral Power, however, Simon refuses to see himself as a god, and instead thinks of himself only as 'Simon the Digger'. In part 3, Simon appears to have, as Gimmy has pointed out, gotten lazier, having fallen into the monotony of bureaucracy, though he wished to return to his hot-blooded life. When Rossiu has him imprisoned after saving Kamina City from the Mugann, Simon seemingly resigns himself to his fate, but shows that he still yearns to fight, shown through his heated battle against Viral in the prison showers. Once Simon and Team Dai-Gurren go to space to rescue Nia, Simon goes through his final evolution. He is much more outgoing and fired-up as opposed to how he was during his tenure as leader of Kamina City. He revels in being able to once again fight alongside his friends. In the final battle against Antispiral, Simon develops a hybrid personality between himself and Kamina, wherein he leads the team in a hot-blooded assault against Antispiral using the bravado once exhibited by Kamina without the arrogance or foolhardiness which frequently landed Kamina in trouble against tougher opponents. One of the most prominent traits that Simon holds is that he cares about others more then his own well-being, as shown when he tells Rossiu to put a bomb inside of Gurren-Lagann to make sure he can't escape to save himself before he went off to fight an incoming group of Mugann during his trial in order to save Kamina City.
👔 Appearance
left|thumb|Simon's appearance in the Beastmen War arc. Simon's most notable physical traits are his wild dark blue hair, short height, indigo monolid eyes and strong lean build, but this was not always the case. Earlier in the series, for his age so he was quite short, shorter than even Nia, Rossiu and Yoko, all of the same age group. At age 14, he stood at approximately 5 feet, and was not as defined compared to the rest of the men in the brigade. He had a lightly tanned baby face which may have not been so bad, was it not for the rest of his body which made him look younger than he actually was. This, as a man, was much to his chagrin. Despite this, his attractive features were still noticed by some women.left|thumb|Simon's appearance in the Anti-Spiral War arc. In part 3 and 4, 21-year-old Simon looks very different. He has matured considerably, now standing at an impressive 6'2'' (taller than both Kamina and Kittan) and is much more muscularly defined. His facial features have matured, gaining hardened edges in his jawline, and his voice dropped an octave or two. In addition, he is even more level-headed than he was before. After the 20 year timeskip during the epilogue, Simon has become visibly taller and has an extremely muscular and tan body. His hair has grown shorter and is similar to Kamina’s haircut, and his right eye has developed into a spiral due to not using his immense power for decades. His face shows several wrinkles and his hair has grayed.
⚡ Abilities
thumb|Simon overflowing with Spiral Power.|alt= Spiral Power: As a Spiral being, he is capable of evolving with the use of Spiral Power, becoming more capable as he retains his willpower or "fighting spirit". Simon's first instance of using Spiral Power without Gunmen involved was in episode 15, where he used only his Core Drill to project his energy, blowing a hole into Lordgenome. The novelization states that Simon became a truly awakened Spiral being, some time before becoming the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren's engine, which requires a Spiral being with truly awakened Spiral Power. Before emerging from the ultra-dense space, Simon already had galactic reserves of Spiral Power, which is also a prerequisite to becoming Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren's power plant. In episode 26, Simon had gained access to infinite amounts of Spiral Power, after merging with every possible version of himself throughout the infinite multiverse. This makes sense, since Spiral Power is proportionate to the user's willpower, and Simon had taken in the will of infinite versions of him. Simon, with his unfathomably large amount of Spiral Power, was able to catch up to match Antispiral's own power via evolution, and eventually overtake him as the universe's most powerful. Towards the end of the final battle, Simon with Nia in Lagann, were able to kill Antispiral, with their combined Spiral Power. In the movie version, Simon had done the final blow, on his own, without a Gunmen. *Integration: In the novelization, Simon used his Core Drill to repair his Hand Drill by fusing them together, via the former object. In episode 26, Simon integrates the Multiverse to himself, as per the Work Soul guidebook. **Singularity: Upon integrating the Multiverse to his body, he also merged with every possible version of himself; past and future versions, alternate versions, along with the past and future of those alternatives, having all of their experiences and knowledge. There is only one Simon in the entire Multiverse, meaning he can't be seen in the past or future, and there is no alternative outcome for him, as he now chooses the path he wants to walk down. This inturn makes him completely invulnerable to the Multiverse Labyrinth, which sends his consciousness drifting to other universes, which is now impossible, since there is no other body for his consciousness to transfer to. *Summoning: In episode 11, while digging out of the bedrock prison from the Beastmen, Lagann dug to his location to save him and the team, when Simon gained back his fighting spirit. *Enhanced Senses: In the novelization, Simon with the use of his Spiral Power had senses that matched even Viral's, who's stated to have superior senses to that of humans. *Electricity Resistance: In episode 22, Simon tanked the electrical attack of the Kuu-Mugann. *Weapon Creation: Simon's first time creating an object out of his Spiral Energy isn't too noteworthy, as he creates a mini Core Drill to breakthrough Rossiu's door in the Arc-Gurren Lagann; shown in Lagann-hen. This ability had become significantly better later on, where he is able to create the galactic-scale Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in the final battle. *Transmutation: Simon upon emerging from the ultra-dense space, converted his Digger Goggles into Star Sunglasses. At the end of his fist fight against Antispiral in Lagann-hen, Simon transmutated all their leaked blood into his final Giga Drill. *Pocket Universe Creation: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a mech that requires a Super Spiral Universe to be created inside of it to exist, and so Simon creates this realm, so that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann may emerge. *Regeneration: After the creation of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, all members of Dai-Gurren were given the ability to reform their bodies as long as their consciousness exists; demonstrated by Lordgenome. *Probability Fluctuations: Simon is capable of damaging Antispiral, who stated that the chances of winning in his universe is absolute 0, corroborated by the fact that when Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fired a myriad of shots towards him, he remained unscathed. *Gravity Manipulation: In the novelization, Simon adjusted the gravity field in the final battle, to draw the surrounding galaxies into Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's vicinity, creating the Hyper Galaxy Belt. *Soundwaves: The novelization states that at towards the end of the final battle, Simon's cry alone was enough to shake an entire galaxy. *thumb|Simon uses some of his blood to form a Giga Drill.Blood Manipulation: During his fist fight with Antispiral, he formed a giga drill from their spilled blood. *Regeneration Negation: Simon's drill nullified Antispiral's ability to regenerate any damage to his body. *Ressurection: Is implied to have the ability to resurrect the dead, but does not want to use this power, preventing the abuse of Spiral Power, as per Antispiral's wish. The novelization explains that utilizing this ability could highly likely bring about the Spira...
